Macomb District Dental Hygienists' Society

History of MDDHS

Macomb District Dental Hygienists’ Society (MDDHS) was chartered by the Michigan Dental Hygienists’ Association (MDHA) in 1967. The charter was signed by Jean Bedore Collins who was then president of MDHA. It became the ninth component of the Michigan State Dental Hygienists’ Association (MSDHA), as it was then called. Macomb’s first president was Joan McGowan. The original membership consisted of twenty hygienists, which made it a large component at the time. The primary reason for formation of the Macomb component was simply the growth of the county’s population. The majority of MDDHS members were previously members of Detroit District Dental Hygiene Society. MDDHS represents Macomb County.

Sandra Franklin, a longtime member of MDDHS, is a MDHA Past President and is currently serving on the Michigan Board of Dentistry.

MDHA Past Presidents include: Sue Pepperman Glisch Kirchner, Sabrina Pilarski, and Jane Halaris.
